Greetings all you anarchists, anti-authoritarians, liberation practicioners of all lands and places:

I’ve been asked to contribute a piece on “Non-Western Anarchisms” for a volume on anarchism due from Palgrave next year.

It’s a daunting task and of course no one can know everything about the entire world.

Nor would I want to claim knowledge of all locations, or presume the right to represent all subject positions.

Instead, I would love to gather lots of people’s thoughts on this, drawing on all the multitudinous-rhizomatic-horizontal-collective-knowledge-perspectives that are out there.  I can’t think of a better—that is, more effective, interesting, or honest—way to go about this.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

  1. suggestions for further sources, links, pictures, examples of historic and recent movements and formations you think I should know about.
  2. your responses to a few interview questions (no time limit, all responses optional).

Here’s the   “Non-Western” “Anarchisms” survey.

For the specific piece I’m writing, I will certainly credit interlocutors—by name, pseudonym, or anonymous if you prefer.

But I’m also hoping that the questions and answers and source list can keep living on the website well beyond this piece, as an ongoing, growing, interactive forum and resource.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Maia (IAS Board member, writer/teacher/historian/artist/activist)
